En España, China y los países ricos dominan el 90% de la nueva energía renovable y el 95% de los vehículos eléctricos.

Energy transition took a new dimension in Spain in 2023, with solar and wind power accelerating and reaching a combined capacity of over 530 gigawatts (GW), four times the total capacity of the Spanish electrical system. Electric car sales also saw strong growth: a 35% year-on-year increase, adding 14 million new battery-powered vehicles on the roads.

Geographical disparities in the energy transition are becoming increasingly evident. Last year, China and wealthy countries – which together account for just over a third of the global population – concentrated 90% of new renewable capacity and over 95% of electric car registrations. “The growth of clean energy is overly concentrated in advanced economies and China, while the rest of the world remains significantly behind,” warned technicians from the International Energy Agency (IEA), a subsidiary of the OECD.
