Cataluña está experimentando una sequía mientras se esperan lluvias y nevadas en áreas bajas de Barcelona.

Catalonia woke up this Sunday with widespread rain, in the midst of a drought episode, and snow at low altitudes, with flakes reaching Montseny, in the Barcelona area, according to the Catalan meteorological service Meteocat. These rains and snowfall, the most significant of this winter, have not yet led to a substantial improvement in Catalan reservoirs, which stand at 14.59% on Sunday, still below the 16% threshold at which the drought entered an emergency phase.

Civil Protection this morning activated the NEUCAT plan in pre-alert phase, as snow has exceeded five centimeters in thickness above 700 meters in the regions of Vallès Oriental and Occidental, Moianès, Osona, and la Selva.

Meteocat reports that during the night and early morning, it also snowed in numerous municipalities located at altitudes between 500 and 700 meters, especially in the Pyrenees, the Tarragona mountains of Padres and Montsant. In the town of Prades, at an altitude of 926 meters, in the Tarragona region of Baix Camp, there were 11 centimeters of snow accumulated this morning.

In the Pyrenees, snow has accumulated between yesterday and today with 42 centimeters in Boí (Alta Ribargorça-Lleida); 34 centimeters in Espot (Pallars Sobirà-Lleida); and 29 in la Bonaigua (Pallars-Sobirà-Lleida), while in the Els Ports Natural Park (Baix Ebre-Tarragona), three centimeters have been accumulated. In Montseny, 70 kilometers from the center of Barcelona, snow has left 14 centimeters in the last hours. In the upcoming days, according to Meteocat, snowfall will be intermittent on the northern slope of the Pyrenees.

Rain also fell this morning in much of Catalonia, including Barcelona, and was particularly abundant in Empordà. In the town of Roses in Girona, 44.1 liters per square meter were accumulated overnight, with a peak of 23.3 liters in thirty minutes.

The precipitation led to the closure of the C-28 highway due to snow at Port de la Bonaigua, in Lleida, and in Tarragona, the T-704 road from Maspujols to L’Aleixar; the TV-7004 from Ulldemolins to Vallclara; the TV-7012 in Arbolí; and the TV-7092 between Arbolí and La Mussara.

Chain use was mandatory on the roads C-28 between La Peülla and València d’Àneu in Lleida; on the C-142 in Pla de Beret; on the N-141 at the Coll del Portilló entrance, and on C-242 between Coll del Grau and Albarca in Tarragona. This noon, only the C-28 at Port de la Bonaigua remains closed due to snow. The access to Coll de Pal in Barcelona is closed due to wind, while chains or winter tires are necessary on C-285 between La Peülla and València d’Àneu in Lleida.

Today, the Sau reservoir in Barcelona is at 1.10% of its capacity, which is 12.22 cubic hectometers, while that of Riudecanyes in Tarragona is at 2.70% and Siurana in Tarragona is at 3.10%. The reservoir with the most accumulated water is Foix, at 56.60%, and Sant Ponç, at 25.70%.
